Veteran award winning broadcaster and writer, worked with the New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation for eleven years as a radio reporter, features producer and television host. During this time, he traveled extensively throughout Southeast Asia, Africa and the South Pacific. He was voted the Best New Zealand Broadcaster in 1973 and 1975.
He is a three time winner of New Zealand's top media award, Best Broadcaster (1973 and 1975), and Best Program (1975). He was host of a Radio New Zealand current affairs show and returned to Canada in 1976 to be CBC TV's news specialist in municipal and provincial affairs.
He worked at CBC Toronto Television as the Queen's Park correspondent and host of two weekly current affairs programs, "The Newsmakers" and "Thursday Night". He was the host of CBC Television's "This Week In Ontario" for five years.
In 1979, Joe moved to radio as the host of "Metro Morning", CBC Toronto's morning show. He remained with "Metro Morning" for thirteen years and then hosted "Ontario Morning for three years. He was also seen throughout Ontario on community cable TV as the host of "City Gardener", an environmental program. In 1992, he took a two- year sabbatical in Malta where his wife was on assignment. While there, he taught journalism at the university and set up the Mediterranean's first English language educational radio network.
